The climate of Melbourne (Australia)
Melbourne is a large city in the southern part of Australia in the state of Victoria. The city was founded only two centuries ago by a colonist who bought the ground for a mere song from the aboriginals. Melbourne is also known as the cultural capital of Australia. Several cultural festivals are held in Melbourne. Even Melbourne’s residents are very diverse. For example: in Melbourne live nearly as many Greeks as in Athens. Melbourne is a very green city. Among the many 19th century buildings and other sights there are many city parks. The old Queen Victoria Market offers everything in the field of food. Melbourne has distinguished itself were sports events are concerned. In 1956 Melbourne was the host for the Olympic Games and the famous Australian Open is held here annually.
Melbourne has a moderate sea climate. Winters are mild and summers are warm. Heat waves are not uncommon for this area. For several days in a row temperatures may rise over 40 degrees Celsius.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
