The climate of Great Exuma (Bahamas)
Great Exuma is the largest island in the Exuma district which consists of about 360 islands. George Town is the capital of this district and is situated on Great Exuma. The Tropic of Cancer runs over this island. Large parts of the island are part of the Exuma National Land and Sea Park. Great Exuma is a popular destination among water sports enthusiasts. Both sailing and diving are very popular, especially diving in the many beautiful reefs off the coast. On the island many small cafés, bars and restaurants can be found. They all have the relaxed atmosphere of the island. Whoever wants to enjoy real peace and quiet can take a boat to one of the smaller islands. Just like the rest of the Bahamas Great Exuma has a tropical savannah climate. This climate can be divided into two seasons. A rainy season with a lot of rain and high temperatures. The relatively dry season has lower temperatures and few rainy days. This is the best time to visit Great Exuma. Because Great Exuma is situated in the Caribbean there is a high risk of tropical storms and depressions.
