The climate of Belize City (Belize)
Belize City is located on the mouth of the river Belize on the Caribbean coast. The city saw considerable expansion in the 17th century when British lumber jacks came to live here. The small Maya village grew into an important port for the export of tropical hardwood. Because of its situation on the coast the city was severely damaged by a hurricane twice. The last time this occurred the city was almost completely destroyed and had to be rebuilt. Belize City has a tropical monsoon climate. This type of climate is characterized by long periods of rain. The rainy season is from June till December. Most of the rain falls in September, October and November. Temperatures in Belize City are constant all year round. During the warm summer months temperatures are moderated by the wind which makes it feel less muggy.
