The climate of Choeung Ek (Cambodia)
Choeung Ek is mainly known as ‘the killing fields’. This enormous mass grave was discovered after the fall of the Red Khmer regime. This communist regime was the ruling party in Cambodia from 1975-1979. In total the regime executed more than 1 million people. At Choeung Ek 8,895 bodies were discovered. Nowadays Choeung Ek is a memorial site, marked by a Buddhist Stupa which is filled with more than 5,000 human skulls. Choeung Ek has a tropical savannah climate with a rainy period from May till September. Precipitation figures are fairly low during the rest of the year. Temperatures are well above 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit) all year round. Temperatures are highest during the rainy period.
