The climate of Vila do Maio (Cape Verde)
Vila do Maio is a village located in the southern part of the island of Maio which is part of the Sotavento Islands, Cape Verde. The city has a small airport which also serves the rest of the island. The main source of income is fishing and salt extraction. Only few tourists travel here because there are only few facilities. The tourists that do travel here do so by the ferry that comes from Santiago.
Vilo do Maio has a tropical savannah climate with many dry days per year. The low precipitation figures cause the surroundings to be arid. The wettest period is during fall. However, precipitation figures during this period vary every year, during some years hardly any precipitation falls. The temperature of the sea is pleasant all year round. The Harmattan wind that comes from the Sahara causes the air to be dry and dusty during large parts of the year.
