The climate of Birao (Central African Republic)
Birao is located in the northern part of the African Republic in the vicinity of the border with Sudan. The city is located in the Vakaga prefecture of which it also is the capital. Over the past few years the city was the target of plundering and fights. During these fights almost the entire city was burned to the ground. Manovo Gounda Saint Floris National Park is situated in the vicinity. This park is a Unesco preservation site. Among the animal species that live here are: black rhinos, elephants, leopards, gazelles, crocodiles and buffalos.
Birao has a warm steppe climate with higher temperatures and lower precipitation figures than the more southerly located places in the country. During the warmest days of the year temperatures easily reach or rise above 40 degrees Celsius. The rainy period is from May till September. The rest of the year is extremely dry.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
