The climate of Chongqing (China)
Chongqing is located in the center of China in the province of Sichuan. The city is situated at the confluence of several large rivers, because of this the city is an important port. The Chinese government wants Chongqing to become a gateway to the west and is trying to make the port suitable for large ships. Chongqing is a real industrial town with many natural minerals and gasfields in the vicinity. Chongqing is situated at the upstream end of the Three Gorges Reservoir. Chongqing has a warm maritime climate (type Cfa according to the Köppen climate classification). During the summer temperatures may rise because of the city’s situation in the Sichuan basin and low pressure areas. The region is among one of the “three ovens” of China. Winters are very mild, temperatures hardly drop. It may be foggy here all year round. Chongqing gets few days with blue skies because of air pollution.
