The climate of Cali (Colombia)
Cali is located near the city of Buenaventura. With a population figure of more than 2 million Cali is one of the biggest cities in Columbia. It also is an important center in trade and industry. Cali was named after its original inhabitants. Cali was founded during the 16th century by Spanish Conquistadors. During this period many estates were built here which were surrounded by sugar plantations and where livestock was held. Slaves had to do all the hard work on these plantations. Several beautiful old colonial buildings can still be admired. Cali has a tropical savannah climate. Because of differences in altitude there may also be differences in temperatures. However, temperatures are high all year round in Cali. Precipitation may fall all year round with a peak during spring and fall.
