The climate of Obock (Djibouti)
Obock is a small port located in the eastern part of Djibouti on the Gulf of Tadjoura. Obock is located in the Obock region of which it also is the capital. During the French colonial era Obock was an important coal port in the vicinity of the Suez Canal. In the vicinity of Obock many saline lakes are situated. Obock has a warm desert climate slightly influenced by the Gulf of Tadjoura. Summers may be extremely hot with daytime temperatures rising above 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). Even during the night it remains warm. Average annual precipitation figures are extremely low, about 150 millimeters. The temperature of the water is pleasant all year round and may offer cooling during the hottest days.
