The climate of Canterbury (England)
Canterbury is located at about an hour’s drive from Dover and is
a beautiful historic city in England. Ever since the Middle Ages it
has been a famous place of pilgrimage. Every year people visit
Canterbury Cathedral to pray at the shrine of Thomas Becket; or rather
the spot marked by a candle where his shrine stood until 1538 when it
was destroyed by order of King Henry VIII. The shrine was said to have
healing effects. You can also visit the spot marking Thomas Becket´s
martyrdom; the impressive Gothic cathedral is well worth a visit. This
building towers high over the medieval streets. Furthermore Canterbury
is famous for the Canterbury Tales. The work of Geoffrey Chaucer can
still be found on many reading lists. An entire museum is dedicated to
his works. Many old houses and fortifications can still be admired
when you walk through the streets of Canterbury. Canterbury is an
ideal day trip destination. If you prefer shopping there is enough to
do as well.
Canterbury has a sea climate. Where temperatures are concerned summer
and winter are quite alike. During the summer temperatures are
moderated by the influence of the sea. Just like in other places in
England rain falls all year round. Because of the influence of the sea
the weather may change here more rapidly than in other places.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
