The climate of Kourou (French Guiana)
Kourou lies north of French Guiana on the Atlantic. Kourou is the third town of the country and owes its reputation in particular to the launching base of the Guiana Space Centre which is situated here and formerly to the penal settlement which was situated here off the coast of Devilís Island. In the north the town is bounded by the Kourou river and on the other side by the mangrove forests. By the situation of Kourou in a seismic zone earthquakes regularly occur here.
Kourou has a tropical rainforest climate with much precipitation equally divided over the entire year. The large amounts of precipitation and the high temperatures cause a high air humidity here. The difference between the day- and night-temperature is just a few degrees here. The sea-temperature here is agreeable throughout the year.
