The climate of Heidelberg (Germany)
Heidelberg is a medium sized city located in the northwestern part of
the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. The city is located on the
banks of the Neckar River. The city is mainly known for Schloss
Heidelberg (castle). This former castle was destroyed by the army of
Louis XIV during the Nine Years’ War. The castle ruins are among the
most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps. The former
castle is situated on a hill about 80 meters above the city of
Heidelberg. Heidelberg is located in the vicinity of the French
border and was conquered by the French several times throughout
history. Heidelberg has a moderate maritime climate influenced by
both the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Because of these
influences extremes in weather are uncommon. Precipitation is quite
evenly spread out over the year. However, chances of precipitation
are highest during the summer. Summers are pleasant but not really
warm. During the summer average daytime temperatures are just above
20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit).

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
