The climate of Winterberg (Germany)
Winterberg  is a popular winter sports destination located in the federal state of North Rhineland Westphalia in the Higher Sauerland district. The best winter sports facilities are situated around the highest mountain which is the Kahler Asten. Besides pistes Winterberg also offers 170 kilometers of cross country skiing trails, an official bobsleigh track and a ski jump. WInterberg is also very popular among mountain bikers. In the vicinity more than 25 trails and a downhill park are situated. If you want to relax after an active day you can enjoy one of the saunas of thermal springs in WInterberg. The Ruhr River rises in the vicinity of WInterberg. Winterberg has a moderate maritime climate with fairly cool summers and mild winters. Because of the presence of the mountains the climate here is not as strongly influenced by the sea as in other regions in Germany. Because Winterberg is located in a valley precipitation is hard to predict. During the winter most precipitation falls in the form of snow. If there is not enough snowfall snow canons will be deployed. During a good winter sports season Winterberg may get a blanket of snow more than 1 meter thick. In general, the first snow falls during the second part of December. The figures below apply to the lower situated regions. It is colder on the ski pistes. During the winter the peaks may be shrouded in mist.
