The climate of Chania on the island of Crete (Greece)
Chania is located in the western part of Crete on the Gulf of Chania. It is one of the largest cities on the island. Chania’s airport, which is located on the Akrotiri peninsula not far from the city is used during the summer by the many tourists that travel here. The old part of Chania has a Venetian harbour and beautiful old Jewish and Turkish quarters. The city is located on the foot of the Lefka Ori mountain range, which means ‘White Mountains’. Chania has a warm Mediterranean climate influenced by the Mediterranean Sea. During the warmest days of the year an ever blowing sea breeze offers a pleasant cooling. Winters are pleasantly mild, sometimes even suitable as a winter sun destination. Summers are warm and dry. During the warmest days temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius are not uncommon.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
