The climate of Ierapetra on the island of Crete (Greece)
Ierapetra is a small city located in the south eastern part of Crete on the Mediterranean Sea. It is the most southerly located city of Europe. As opposed to the northern part of the island the main source of income isn’t tourism here. The main source of income here is greenhouse cultivation and agriculture. Tourists that do travel here, mainly come to enjoy the peace and quiet. The city still breathes the traditional Greek atmosphere. The uninhabited island of Chrissi is a nice daytrip. The sea is much rougher here than on the north side of the island. Ierapetra has a warm Mediterranean climate. Most of the precipitation falls during the winter. During the summer temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius. During the summer precipitation is scarce. An ever blowing sea breeze offers some cooling.
