The climate of Rethymno on the island of Crete (Greece)
Rethymno is a large city in the northern central part of Crete, located on the Mediterranean Sea. In the old center of Rethymno, also known as Palia Poli many things hark back to the times of the Venetian and Ottoman rulers. There is a Venetian harbour and many houses are built in Turkish style. The old Venetian harbour is an ideal place for a romantic dinner on the waterfront. Several small restaurants can be found here. From the harbour you look out over the Mediterranean and the beautiful old lighthouse. Rethymno has a warm Mediterranean climate influenced by the Mediterranean Sea. Winters are mild and very wet. Summers are warm, sometimes hot and very dry. During the warmest days of the year a refreshing sea breeze offers some cooling. During the winter temperatures are too low to make Rethymno a winter sun destination.
