The climate of Basse-Terre (Guadeloupe)
The town of Basse-Terre is the administrative centre of the French overseas department of Guadeloupe. Officially Paris is the capital of Guadeloupe and in the administrative field Basse-Terre has only a restricted role. As far as the number of inhabitants is concerned Basse-Terre is the second town of Guadeloupe, the town lies in the south-west of the Isle with the same name of Basse-Terre. With no more than eighteen hundred millimeters of precipitation Basse-Terre belongs to the drier parts of Guadeloupe. Due to the prevailing north-eastern trade-wind Basse-Terre lies on the weather-side of the volcano La Soufrière. With a maximum temperature of 27 to 33 degrees throughout the year it is always warm in Basse-Terre. In the second half of the year, when it is the rainy season, the relative air humidity increases to values over eighty percent, through which it feels damp and sultry.

The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
