The climate of Takayama (Japan)
Takayama is located in the interior of the island of Honsu in the middle of the mountainous Hida region. Takayama’s historic character has been well preserved. The town still breathes the atmosphere of many centuries ago. The town is famous for its traditional woodcarving, a centuries-old craft still practised here and the spectacular festivals that are held in spring and autumn. During these festivals long pageants are held.
The climate of Takayama is influenced by how the city is situated and by its altitude. Despite Takayama’s moderate sea climate temperatures may fluctuate because of the altitude at which it is located. After sunset during the summer temperatures rapidly drop. During the winter most precipitation falls in the form of snow.
