The climate of Ma’an (Jordan)
Ma’an is a small town located in the southern part of Jordan in the Ma’an district. Ma’an is an old city which was inhabited as early as the Nabatean period. Although it is a small city, it is the largest city in this part of Jordan. Ma’an plays an important role in that it is from this town that small villages and other cities in this part of Jordan get their fresh supplies. Two highways and a railroad run along the city. One of the most important tourist attractions of the country, Petra, is located at only 20 kilometers from the city. Almost every day excursions are made from Ma’an to this world wonder. Ma’an has a warm desert climate characterized by large differences in temperatures between the seasons and low precipitation figures. Ma’an gets only 50 millimeters of annual precipitation. During the summer average daytime temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Winters are fairly cool with average daytime temperatures of 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit). During the winter subzero temperatures during the night are not uncommon. Ma’an gets hit by dust storms on a regular basis which seem to come out of nowhere.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
