The climate of Vientiane (Laos)
Vientiane is the capital of Laos and is located on the banks of the Mekong River. The name of the city is derived from the time when the French pronounced the name Wiang Chan (as the city is known locally) as Vientiane. Vientiane has a tropical savannah climate with warm and dry winters and a rainy season from May till October. From November precipitation figures, humidity figures and temperatures start to decrease causing it to feel much more pleasant in this tropical city. Vientiane gets about 1,660 millimeters of annual precipitation. During the driest months (December and January) only 10 millimeters of rain per month can be recorded.
