The climate of Zwedru (Liberia)
Zwedru is a little town in the north-west of Liberia on the river Cavalla not far away from the border with Ivory Coast. Zwedru lies in the Grand Gedeh region of which it is also the capital. Zwedru is also known by the name of Tchien. The main source of income of the town are the rubber plantations and the diamond mines lying around the town. Zwedru has an aerodrome of its own through which it has an important regional function.
Zwedru has a tropical monsoon climate with many days with precipitation per year. There is one long rainy season here lasting from March up to and including October. During this rainy period more than 5000 millimeters of precipitation may fall. Together with the higher temperatures this causes an average air humidity that is considerably high. During the drier months of the year the Harmattan wind can blow dry warm wind from the Sahara over the town.
