The climate of Pohnpei (Micronesia)
Pohnpei is a federal state in Micronesia and consists of 162 islands. The capital of this federal state, Kolonia is located on the main island of Pohnpei. Palikir, which is the capital of the federal states of Micronesia is also situated on this island. The international airport of the federal state is situated on the small island of Deketik, which is connected to the main island by a bridge. Most of the islands that are part of Pohnpei are uninhabited. However, on a large number of islands small communities with a maximum population of 500 have formed. Most people live on the main island of Pohnpei. Pohnpei has a tropical rainforest climate and is among the wettest places in the world. The main island gets about 5,000-8,000 millimeters of annual precipitation. The temperature of the sea is pleasantly warm all year round and very suitable for swimming. Daytime temperatures are 30 degrees Celsius on average. The trade winds offer cooling. From July till December there is a risk of tropical storms and hurricanes.

The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
