The climate of Mawlamyine (Myanmar)
Mawlamyine is located in the southern part of Myanmar on the banks of the Salween River. During British rule this was a busy port. Nowadays it is a peaceful town. Many buildings and historical monuments remain from the colonial era. Beautiful old warehouses in colonial architecture and beautiful mosques for the Indian workers who settled here. On the rock formation which towers over the city Buddhist temples were built. It is said that these temples were the inspiration for the poems of the British writer Rudyard Kipling. Mawlamyine has a tropical monsoon climate. The tropical monsoon climate has a wet period, a summer and a dry period during the winter. Temperatures are high here all year round and hardly ever drop below 18 degrees Celsius (64.4 degrees Fahrenheit). Because of its situation on the sea average humidity figures are lower here than in the interior.
