The climate of Delfzijl (the Netherlands)
Delfzijl is a small town located in the most northern tip of the Groningen province in the Delfzijl municipality. Delfzijl is located on the banks of the Eems estuary. Other villages that are part of the Delfzijl municipality are: Farmsum, Wagenborgen, Spijk and Holwierde. The region surrounding Delfzijl has been inhabited since time immemorial. The first records of Delfzijl date back to the 12th century. The Eems hotel is situated outside the dikes and offers a spectacular view over the Eems estuary and the German dikes. Delfzijl has a moderate sea climate which is slightly colder than in the south because of the northerly situation of Delfzijl. Longer periods with subzero temperatures occur more regularly than in the southern part of the country. During the summer temperatures are 20 degrees Celsius on average. Precipitation is evenly spread out over the year.
