The climate of Twente (the Netherlands)
Twente is located in the eastern part of the province of Overijssel. The region is often referred to as the country estate of the Netherlands. Twente is a rural area. The landscape in Twente is characterized by many estates. Twente is divided into two areas by a ridge, which gives Twente a hilly landscape. Because Twente is situated on the German border the influence of the sea is not as strong as in the more westerly located cities and regions. On average temperatures are lower in Twente than in the rest of the country. However, summers are warmer. Because Twente is situated in the interior the region has lower precipitation figures than other places in the Netherlands. Twente is one of the driest regions on the country.
