The climate of Dunedin (New Zealand)
Dunedin is a true university city at the Otago harbour on the South Island. Because of the many students Dunedin has an exhilarating night life. Many cultural activities can be enjoyed here as well. The scenery is very suitable for these activities. Because of the Scottish roots (Dunedin was founded by Scottish colonists) and the gold fever many beautiful buildings were built during the 19th century. The many Victorian and Edwardian buildings add to the pleasant atmosphere of the city.
Dunedin has a sea climate. Despite the beautiful beaches the climate is not always sunny. Even during the summer large amounts of rain can fall. Temperatures are not extreme on average. Subzero temperatures are uncommon during the winter because of the tempering influence of the sea. During the summer temperatures are around 25 degrees Celsius on average.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
