The climate of Wellington (New Zealand)
Wellington is located on the North Island and is New Zealand’s capital. Wellington was named after the archbishop of Wellington. Before this the city was named “Te Upoko o te lka a Maui” which means something like “Head of the fish of Maui”. Wellington is also the cultural capital of the country and has several theatres and museums.
Wellington’s summers are pleasant with temperatures of 20-25 degrees Celsius on average. Wellington has over 2000 hours of sunshine per year. Winters are pleasant too with temperatures hardly below 10 degrees Celsius. Subzero temperatures hardly ever occur. Because Wellington is located on the Tasman Sea strong winds are not uncommon.
