The climate of Leknes (Norway)
Leknes is located in the northernmost part of Norway on the rugged coast. It is one of the few cities in Norway where fishing is the main source of income. With its wooden houses the city breathes a cosy atmosphere. In the vicinity of Leknes several Natural Reserves can be found. During the winter you can admire the beautiful aurora borealis here. A phenomenon that only occurs in polar regions. During the night you can spot a spectacle of colors and shapes in the sky. During summer months it does not get dark during the night. From the second part of May it only gets dusky, eventually it doesn’t get dark at all. Despite its location on the sea Leknes has a continental climate with extreme differences in temperatures between summer and winter. During the winter it may get extremely cold. Because of high precipitation figures the city is covered in a thick blanket of snow for many days per year.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
