The climate of Cusco (Peru)
Cusco is located in the south eastern part of Peru in the Andes. The city used to be the capital of the Inca empire and was a flourishing center of this culture till the 16th century. The Spanish took over the reign and from the 16th century the building styles of both cultures mixed. Sometimes foundations built by the Inca’s were used for Spanish buildings. The remains of this history can still be admired in Cusco. Because Cusco is situated at a high altitude the city has a moderate China climate. This climate type has many characteristics of a tropical climate. However, because of the high altitude temperatures are much lower. High precipitation figures can be recorded all year round. During the warm summer temperatures remain below 22 degrees Celsius. During the winter temperatures may slightly drop below freezing point.
