The climate of Ponta Delgada (Portugal)
Ponta Delgada is a city and a municipality on São Miguel Island which is part of the Azores. Ponta Delgada is the largest city and the capital of this autonomous region. However, the government has its seat in Horta, which is located on Faial Island. The historic center of Ponta Delgada consists of the former parishes São Pedro, São Sebastião and São José. The largest international airport of the Azores is situated in the vicinity of the city as well as a large port. Ponta Delgada has a warm maritime climate strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. Because of this influence extremes in weather are uncommon in Ponta Delgada as well as on São Miguel. Temperatures are pleasant all year round. During the summer temperatures are around 25 degrees Celsius. During the summer the temperature of the sea is pleasant enough to go swimming.
