The climate of Novosibirsk (Russia)
Novosibirsk is located in the southern part of Russia on the river Ob
in the Asiatic part of the country. Novosibirsk is situated in the
south-eastern part of the West-Siberian lowlands. The city is situated
on the Trans Siberian Railway and is seen as the industrial capital of
Siberia. Originally the city was named Novonikolaevsk after Tsar
Nicolas II Aleksandrovitch. Novosibirsk is the capital of the
Novosibirsk oblast (administrative division). Novosibirsk has a
continental climate with large differences between summer and winter.
Winters are extremely cold with temperatures of -19 degrees Celsius on
average. However, temperatures may drop even lower. The coldest
temperature on record is -51.1 degrees Celsius. Summers are short and
pleasantly warm with temperatures of 19 degrees Celsius on average.
The warmest temperature on record is 37 degrees Celsius.
