The climate of Bakel (Senegal)
Bakel is located in the northeastern part of Senegal on the banks of the Senegal River which forms the border with Mauretania here. Bakel is also located in the vicinity of the border with Mali. From here you can take a ferry to Gouray, which is located in Mauretania. Bakel is located in the Tambacounda region. The city is situated in the Sahel which is a belt that stretches out from east to west, south of the equator. Bakel has its own airport. Bakel has a warm steppe climate with one short rainy period form June till September. Average daytime temperatures are fairly high, peaks up to 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit) are not uncommon. During the wet period this causes high humidity figures. During the drier months a Harmattan wind may blow. This type of wind supplies dry and dusty air and may have a cooling influence.
