The climate of Ziguinchor (Senegal)
Ziguinchor is located in the southwestern part of Senegal on the banks of the Casamance River. Ziguinchor is located in the Ziguinchor district of which it also is the capital. The city is located in the vicinity of the border with Guinea-Bissau. Gambia, which is surrounded by Senegal is also in the vicinity. Ziguinchor was founded in 1645 by the Portuguese. West of the city Cap Skirring can be found, which is very popular among tourists.
Ziguinchor has a tropical savannah climate with one distinct rainy period from June till October. Especially in August and September precipitation figures may be high. Average daytime temperatures are 30 degrees Celsius (86.0 degrees Fahrenheit) all year round. However, peaks of 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) are not uncommon. From November till April a Harmattan wind may blow. This type of wind supplies dry and dusty air from the Sahara.
