The climate of the Balearic Islands
The Balearic Islands are an archipelago situated east of the Spanish
mainland. The Balearic Islands consist of the islands
Formentera,
Ibiza, Mallorca and
Minorca. The Balearic Islands have a Mediterranean
climate with warm and dry summers. Winters are mild and much wetter
than summers.
Precipitation
Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera have low precipitation figures. These
islands get less than 100 millimeters of annual precipitation, most of
which falls from October till April. Mallorca is slightly wetter on
average, especially the southern part of the island and the northeast
coast get more rain. However, the popular seaside resorts can be found
in the drier parts of the island. If you stay on one of the islands
during summer chances of dry and warm weather are high. Every now and
then a depression passes by causing rainy weather. However, this
hardly ever lasts longer than one or two days.
Summer weather
Beach weather may already occur in April. However, from May the
weather really starts to be pleasant. The temperature of the sea
usually rises above 20 degrees Celsius (68.0 degrees Fahrenheit) in
June to drop below 20 degrees Celsius (68.0 degrees Fahrenheit) in the
second part or at the end of November. During the summer daytime
temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius (86.0 degrees Fahrenheit).
During the night temperatures remain around 20 degrees Celsius (68.0
degrees Fahrenheit). Accompanied by an ever blowing sea breeze the
weather is almost always very pleasant on the Balearic Islands.
