The climate of Puerto Rico (Canary Islands / Spain)
Puerto Rico, literately meaning Rich Coast is the second seaside resort in Gran Canaria after Playa del Inglés. Because of its situation on the leeward side large apartment complexes and hotels were built here during the 1970s. Because of the steep coast of Puerto Rico the resort is protected from the wind. Winds here are often very calm. Because the wind mainly comes from the northeast it has hardly any chance of reaching Puerto Rico. This is also why precipitation figures here are lower than in Playa del Inglés and Costa Meloneras which are both located in the vicinity. There is a large chance that the weather is dry and sunny in Puerto Rico while at the same time it rains in the Dunas de Maspalomas. However, families with children often prefer Playa de Amadores to Puerto Rico because this beach has been voted most suitable beach for children several times.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
