The climate of Santiago de Compostela (Spain)
Santiago de Compostela is the capital of the Galicia region and is located in the La Coruña province. The city is among the most important places of pilgrimage of Christianity. The entire route to Santiago de Compostela is a Unesco preservation site. Many Pilgrims come here every year to visit the tomb of the apostle James. A modern version of the Saint James scallop is used on posts to mark the route. The historic center of Santiago de Compostela with its beautiful cathedral is also a Unesco preservation site. Santiago de Compostela has a moderate maritime climate which is strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean despite its situation in the interior. On average temperatures are much lower than in the more southeasterly located places in Spain. During the summer average daytime temperatures are below 25 degrees Celsius (77.0 degrees Fahrenheit) which is low by Spanish standards. Average precipitation figures are high with almost 2,000 millimeters of annual precipitation. Only in July and August precipitation figures are lower.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
