The climate of Bethel (Alaska
- United States of America)
Bethel is located in a very remote area in the southwestern part of
Alaska. Bethel is situated where the Kusko River flows into the Bering
Sea and can only be reached by air or water. The villages in the
vicinity of Bethel depend on the supply of goods to Bethel. The
indigenous people mainly depended on fishing.
Bethel has a subarctic climate, also known as a cold land climate with
large differences between summer and winter. Bethel has extremely cold
winters with temperatures dropping far below -30 degrees Celsius (-22
degrees Fahrenheit). The short summers may be warm. Temperatures of 30
degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) are not uncommon during that
period. Most precipitation falls during the summer. In October and
November the form of precipitation changes into snow.
