The climate of Ketchikan (Alaska
- United States of America)
Ketchikan was named after the Ketchikan River which flows through this
region. The main sources of income are fishing and tourism. Mainly
salmon is caught here. Many totem poles can be found here. In order to
create some employment for the locals they were asked to reproduce
their traditional totem poles. These totem poles can still be admired.
Ketchikan has a much milder climate than you would expect in a city
located at this altitude. Because of the influence of the sea
Ketchikan has a cool maritime climate. during the winter average
temperatures are above freezing point. During the summer it is
pleasantly warm here on average. Ketchikan has extremely high
precipitation figures all year round. However, most rain falls during
fall and the winter.
