The climate of Oahu (Hawaii - United States of America)
Oahu is the third largest island of Hawaii. The largest part of the Hawaiian population lives on this island. The most important cities on the island are Waikiki and Honolulu. Pearl Harbor is located on this island. On 7 December 1941 the harbor was bombed by Japanese air forces. Almost the entire American naval fleet was destroyed during this bombing. On the site where the bombing took place a memorial center can be found. However, the island has more historic sites to offer. Oahu is the longest inhabited of all the Hawaiian islands. On the north coast big waves crash onto the shore. This spot is very popular among surfers. The surf here is a real challenge. The interior of Oahu is very rural and nice. Oahu has a tropical climate. because the island consists of two volcanoes high differences in precipitation figures can be recorded. The Ko’olau mountain ridge forms a wall in the west which actually stops the rain from going any further. This means the villages located at the foot of this mountain ridge have higher precipitation figures. Most rain falls during the evening and early morning. The cloud banks over the mountain ridges clearly seen from a high vantage point give an indication of the difference in rainfall.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
