The climate of Rocky Mountains (Idaho - United States of America)
Rocky Mountains is a large mountainous area stretching for almost 5,000 kilometers in Canada and the United States. The highest peak is Mount Elbert at 4,402 meters. Several rivers rise in the mountains: The Missouri, The Arkansas, The Rio Grande and the Colorado River; The Yukon and the Bow rise on Canadian soil. A large part of the Rocky Mountains is a protected area. The mountain area is a popular tourist destination for hiking, camping, mountaineering, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, skiing and snowboarding. Several National Parks can be found within the Rocky Mountains. The best known on American soil are Rocky Mountain National Park and Yellowstone National Park. On Canadian soil Banff National Park and Kootenay National Park can be found. The Rocky Mountains have a cold steppe climate with everlasting snow in the higher areas. During the winter precipitation mainly falls in the form of snow. The area is too large to give it one type of climate. The northern part of the Rockies are much colder in general. The windward side gets more rain than the leeward side. The higher areas are colder than the lower areas. The figures below are based on a part of the mountain range situated in Wyoming, United States.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
