Decatur is a large city located centrally in Illinois. The city is
located on the banks of the Sangamon River on Lake Decatur in Macon
County. Population figures are rapidly decreasing because several big
employers have left the city. This also caused crime figures to
increase. The Lincoln Trail Homestead State Memorial can be found in
the city.
Decatur has a warm continental climate with high precipitation figures
all year round. Because the city is located in Tornado Alley there is
a risk of tornadoes. Winters are very cold, especially during the
night temperatures may drop far below freezing point. Summers are warm
to hot with temperatures rising up to 36 degrees Celsius (97 degrees
Fahrenheit).
