The climate of Dubuque (Iowa - United States of America)
Dubuque is a medium sized city located in the eastern part of the state of Iowa on the banks of the Mississippi River. The city lies at the junction of three states: Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, a region locally known as the Tri-State Area. Dubuque is one of the oldest places in this part of the United States. During the 17th century the French colonized this part of the country. However, the first Europeans settled here a century later. During this period the lead mines were dug and exploited. Many tourists travel here every year to enjoy the hilly scenery and the beautiful architecture. The casinos along the Mississippi River are very popular as well.
Dubuque has a warm continental climate with slightly higher precipitation figures than in other places in Iowa. During the winter most precipitation falls in the form of snow and glazed frost. Summers are pleasantly warm; during the warmest days temperatures may rise far above 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Winters are very cold. During the winter temperatures hardly ever rise above freezing point. Dubuque is located in Tornado alley.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
