The climate of Sioux City (Iowa - United States of America)
Sioux City is located in the western part of Iowa on the banks of the Missouri River. The urban area of the city is situated both in Iowa and in the neighboring state of Nebraska. Southwest from the city the beautiful Stone State Park can be found. The Big Sioux River flows through this park. Sioux City has been awarded “the best medium-sized city to live in prize” for several years in a row. According to another source the city is among the drunkest cities in America. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. However, during the prohibition the city was known as ‘Little Chicago’, mainly because many moonshiners were at work here.
Sioux City has a moderate continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. Average precipitation figures are slightly lower here than in other parts of the city. Most precipitation can be recorded during summer. However, clouds rapidly dissolve. During the summer the sun shines exuberantly. January is the coldest month, especially nights may be extremely cold then.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
