The climate of Salina (Kansas - United States of America)
Salina is located centrally in the state of Kansas in Saline County. The city was founded by colonists during the second part of the 19th century. Nowadays the city is located in one of the major wheat producing regions in the world. Because of this many grain elevators can be found here. Another main source of income for the city is industry. Several big companies such as Philips have their headquarters here. Salina has a warm continental climate with characteristics of a warm maritime climate. Because of this temperatures are higher here during the winter than in the more northerly located cities. During the winter longer periods with subzero temperatures are not uncommon. Summers are characterized by high temperatures and high precipitation figures. Because of this humidity figures are high as well during the summer.
