The climate of Wichita (Kansas - United States of America)
Wichita is a large city located in the southern part of Kansas in Sedgwick County. Wichita is located on the banks of the Arkansas River. The city was founded at the end of the 19th century. At the beginning of the 20th century the city became the ‘Air Capital of the World’, this because many aircraft builders can be found in the city. The first Pizza Hut was opened here in 1958. Wichita has a warm continental climate with long and warm to even hot summers and short and cold winters. During the winter longer periods with subzero temperatures are not uncommon. However, during most days temperatures rise above freezing point. Summers are hot and wet which causes humidity figures to be high. Wichita is located in Tornado Alley please, bear this in mind when visiting the city.
