The climate of Lexington (Kentucky
- United States of America)
Lexington is located centrally in Kentucky. The city is known as the
‘Horse Capital of the World’. In 2010 Lexington hosted the World
Equestrian Games. Two horse racing tracks can be found in the city,
the Red Mile Harness Track and Kentucky Horse Park. Several
universities can be found in the city such as the University of
Kentucky and Transylvania University. The city is also known for its
annual Bluegrass festival.
Lexington has a warm maritime climate with characteristics of a warm
continental climate. Summers are pleasantly warm. However, during the
summer nights may be cool. Winters are cold. Longer periods with
subzero temperatures are not uncommon. Precipitation is quite evenly
spread out over the year. During the winter precipitation may fall in
the form of snow.
