The climate of Baton Rouge (Louisiana - United States of America)
Although New Orleans is the best known city in Louisiana, Baton Rouge is the capital of Louisiana. Baton Rouge is located in the interior of the state. In the field of industry and scientific research Baton Rouge is an important city. Baton Rouge has a population figure of almost 1 million. Baton Rouge has a warm maritime climate (type Cfa according to the Köppen climate classification). Summers are long and wet. Spring and fall are short and winters are mild. During the winter the number of days with subzero temperatures are limited to only a few, even during the coldest months the weather may be spring like. Snowfall is uncommon. Snowfall occurring in three consecutive years is very uncommon. However, this happened in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Despite its location in the interior there is a risk of tropical storms and hurricanes. In 2008 hurricane Gustav caused a lot of damage. During this hurricane wind speeds up to 170 kilometers per hour could be recorded.
