Lake Charles is a large city located in the southwestern part of
Louisiana on the banks of the Calcasieu River. The city is located on
Lake Charles and Lake Prien. The main source of income is the
petrochemical industry. McNeese State University and Soweta Technical
Community College can be found in the city as well. Lake Charles has a
warm maritime climate with long hot summers and cool but mild winters.
During the summer temperatures may rise up to 40 degrees Celsius (104
degrees Fahrenheit). During the winter subzero temperatures may occur.
However, longer periods with subzero temperatures are uncommon. There
is a risk of tropical storms and hurricanes in Lake Charles.
