The climate of Oregon (United
States of America)
The state of Oregon is located in the northwestern part of the United
States. Several mountainous regions can be found in Oregon due to the
influence of plate tectonics. Impressive mountains are alternated by
even more impressive lakes. The combination of high mountains and
large lakes attract many people who like peace and quiet. One of the
most important attractions in Oregon is Crater Lake, with a depth of
600 meters this is the deepest lake in the United States. Oregon has a
mix of Mediterranean and continental climate types with dry summers
and fairly wet winters in the entire state. Based on precipitation
figures a small region in the southern part of Oregon has a cold
steppe climate. during the winter depressions are supplied from the
relatively warm Pacific Ocean causing precipitation figures to be high
during this period. However, there are large differences in
precipitation figures. This is mainly caused by the mountainous
regions which may cause very high precipitation figures in one
particular region. Precipitation figures are much lower on the leeward
side of the mountains. Because of the influence of the ocean chances
of subzero temperatures and snowfall are much smaller here than in the
interior.
