The climate of Erie (Pennsylvania
- United States of America)
Erie is a large city located in the northwestern part of the state of
Pennsylvania in the vicinity of the border with the state of Ohio.
Erie is located in Erie County on Lake Erie after which the city was
named. Presque Isle State Park can be found off the coast of Lake
Erie. This park is very popular among walkers, swimmers, cyclists and
mountain bikers. Erie is connected with the Atlantic Ocean by Lake
Ontario and the Saint Lawrence River. This connection is one of the
main sources of income for the city. Erie was a warm continental
climate slightly influenced by Lake Erie. Because of this temperatures
during the winter are slightly higher than you would expect in a city
located this far to the north. Precipitation is not as evenly spread
out over the year as in other parts of Pennsylvania. Winters are
drier, summers slightly wetter. During the winter longer periods with
subzero temperatures (during the night) are not uncommon.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
